The Overview of Couple CLASH.

As part of your involvement in this project, you have already been informed that Couple CLASH is a 12 month study involving you and your partner. During this time, you and your partner will complete five surveys. If you choose to participate in the video-recorded discussion tasks, you and your partner will also attend an appointment with the research team at the start and the end of the study.

The total time commitment for this project is expected to be about 3.5 hours over a 12-month period for the surveys, and an additional 2 hours if you choose to take part in the discussion tasks.

The Couple CLASH Surveys.

At the start (baseline) of the study and then every 3-months over a 12-month period, you and your partner will complete an online survey about aspects of your relationship, your personalities, your substance use, your stress and your attitudes. Each survey is expected to take 40 minutes to complete. We will send you a link to the survey when it is time to complete it. You will need to monitor your email inbox (and spam folder) for the link around the timeline above. It is important that you and your partner complete every survey separately without discussing your responses with one another.

The Couple CLASH Discussion Task.

If you and your partner choose to also take part in the discussion tasks, you will engage in a video-recorded discussion task at the start (baseline) and the end (12-months after baseline) of the study. The task can be completed in-person at Deakin University or online via Zoom (provided you have a working smartphone with video or a computer with a webcam). The discussion task will be conducted by our trained researchers.

The discussion task will include:

• Introductions and an overview of the task

• Setting up and preparing for the discussion

• A 10min video-recorded discussion between you and your partner

• A 3min video-recorded discussion between you and your partner

The discussion task should not last more than 60 minutes. We allow this amount of time to answer any questions that you or your partner may have about the task or the study in general.
